Chirp Deals is a free smartphone application that was developed by inhouse group to provide consumers with deals around their location whilst also offering an innovative method of encouraging return visitation and loyalty.

Chirp Deals was developed from the realisation that there was an opportunity to combine two emerging trends, being the adoption of mobile internet and the need for businesses to offer "deals" to attract new customers.

The high rate of mobile internet adoption means that consumers are finding new ways to communicate and access information. They expect a personalised and more relevant experience, with fast access at their fingertips. As consumers have become more mobile, the effectiveness of traditional forms of advertising has been reduced - newspaper readership is down and television is being shared with mobile internet.

Business owners needed a new way to attract customers, and mobile was where to find them. 50% of Australians will own a smartphone by the end of 2011, and one third of all searches are local. GPS technology means smartphone users are able to engage with people and places around their current location.

At the same time, we have seen the proliferation of "daily deal" and "group buying" sites around the world. These sites grew extremely quickly by offering consumers discounts of 50 – 90% and promising businesses an influx of new and repeat customers. Unfortunately, this model was heavily skewed in favour of the consumer and the group buying sites. The businesses offering deals have to provide products and services at below cost to customers that they are never likely to see again, as well as giving a significant proportion of their revenue from these customers to the group buying site. We believed that there was a more sustainable model that would benefit both consumers and businesses.

So from this desire to even the playing field for businesses, Chirp Deals was born. Chirp Deals allows businesses to offer deals that will encourage visitation from new customers at a reasonable and sustainable price point. Chirp Deals also allows the business the flexibility to change their deal throughout the year and decide how often they will allow a particular consumer to redeem a deal (this can be daily, weekly or monthly).

Chirp Deals enables businesses to effectively communicate with local, mobile consumers. By offering this potentially loyal customer a deal or discount, consumers are more likely to try something they otherwise wouldn’t. Hence the Chirp Deals tagline "Discover Local for Less™".
