marketing + advertising

At inhouse group, we don't prescribe to the catch-all, blast-radius style advertising methods used by some. We believe in maximizing our client's dollars with thoughtful outside-the-box solutions.

the difference

You will often find that many people confuse marketing with advertising or vice versa. While both components are important they are very different. Knowing the difference and doing your market research can put your business on the path to substantial growth.

Let's start off by reviewing the formal definitions of each.
Advertising. The paid, public, non-personal announcement of a persuasive message by an identified sponsor; the non-personal presentation or promotion by a firm of its products to its existing and potential customers.
Marketing. The systematic planning, implementation and control of a mix of business activities intended to bring together buyers and sellers for the mutually advantageous exchange or transfer of products.

After reading both of the definitions it is easy to understand how the difference can be confusing to the point that people think of them as one-and-the same, so let's break it down.

The best way to distinguish between advertising and marketing is to think of marketing as a pie. Inside that pie you have slices of advertising, market research, public relations, product pricing, distribution, customer support and sales strategy. All of these elements must not only work independently but also work together towards the bigger goal. Advertising is a single component of the marketing process. It's the part that involves getting the word out concerning your business, product, or the services you are offering. It involves the process of developing strategies such as ad placement, frequency, etc. While this may seem overwhelming, at inhouse we make it our business to take the information you provide, combined with the research we carry out, and create an easy to understand plan to get your business from where it is, to where you want it to be.

Marketing is essential for your business survival and growth. It's all about getting your products to the right people. Before deciding how you will advertise your business, inhouse group will analyse which advertising medium will best suit your customer base.

the inhouse marketing plan

A marketing plan helps you to integrate the elements of your marketing and advertising. It provides a systematic approach to developing products and services to meet your customers’ needs.

inhouse group will write you a marketing plan, ensuring objectives are clear, and explain how we plan to achieve them together. A good marketing plan sets clear, realistic and measurable objectives, includes deadlines, provides a budget and allocates responsibilities.

The plan consists of the following elements:

  • analysis of your current market
  • your business objectives
  • key strategies
  • steps to achieving your business objectives
  • proposed budget
  • timing

Remember that your marketing plan should remain an ongoing process throughout the life of your business.

inhouse group can market your business through a variety of advertising means, including direct mail, email, developing your business website, online advertising, radio, newspapers, directories and magazines.
